Spirit of God, Descend Upon My Heart

Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
~Galatians 5:25

Spirit of God, Descend Upon My Heart
words by George Croly

Spirit of God, descend upon my heart;
Wean it from earth; through all its pulses move;
Stoop to my weakness, mighty as Thou art;
And make me love Thee as I ought to love.

I ask no dream, no prophet ecstasies,
No sudden rending of the veil of clay,
No angel visitant, no opening skies;
But take the dimness of my soul away.

Teach me to feel that Thou art always nigh;
Teach me the struggles of the soul to bear.
To check the rising doubt, the rebel sigh,
Teach me the patience of unanswered prayer.

Hast Thou not bid me love Thee, God and King?
All, all Thine own, soul, heart and strength and mind.
I see Thy cross; there teach my heart to cling:
O let me seek Thee, and O let me find!

Teach me to love Thee as Thine angels love,
One holy passion filling all my frame;
The kindling of the heaven descended Dove,
My heart an altar, and Thy love the flame.

Peter Pan

Sisters Book Challenge
Book 4
Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie

I didn't know what I was going to think of Peter Pan when I started it. I've seen the  Disney movie but I know that they aren't always close to the book. I started reading and it was a nice book! It was a very easy to read book. It didn't take me very long to read it once I started.

Peter takes Wendy, John, and Michael back to live with him in Neverland. He wants Wendy with be his mother after she so kindly sews his shadow back on. Tinker Bell is quite jealous of Peter's attention toward Wendy and tries to get back at Wendy at every opportunity. When the children get to Neverland, they settle into normal life at once. The Peter, John, Michael, and the Lost Boys who already were on the island eat, play, and nap with Wendy watching over them as a good little mother. But all the while as they contentedly go about their days they have to watch out for the pirates, the Indians, and the wild animals that roam around the island. But Wendy has never forgotten her family back home and she tries her best to make sure that her brothers remember, all to Peter's chagrin.

Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing

Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing
words by Robert Robinson

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
Mount of Thy redeeming love.

Sorrowing I shall be in spirit,
Till released from flesh and sin,
Yet from what I do inherit,
Here Thy praises I’ll begin;
Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Here by Thy great help I’ve come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.

Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood;
How His kindness yet pursues me
Mortal tongue can never tell,
Clothed in flesh, till death shall loose me
I cannot proclaim it well.

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

O that day when freed from sinning,
I shall see Thy lovely face;
Clothed then in blood washed linen
How I’ll sing Thy sovereign grace;
Come, my Lord, no longer tarry,
Take my ransomed soul away;
Send thine angels now to carry
Me to realms of endless day.

Collections: Hope Chest - The History of My Hope Chest

Ever since I can remember, I have been collecting items for my future home. It started out in a plastic shoe box under my bed but it soon overflowed its box. Then, I got a bigger storage container that went in the attic with my things in it. What I really wanted was a hope chest like Kristin had when she was still living at home. So for Christmas 2009, my dad made me my own hope chest. I knew about it ahead of time so I was able to pick out the type of wood I wanted. When it finally made it up to my room after Christmas, I put in the items that I had in various places and I think half the space was used right away.

Collections: Hope Chest - In the Hope Chest

So what do I have in my hope chest?

As I've said, my hope chest is packed! I don't think I can get another thing in it. Plus the closet and the attic have some things, too.

Kitchen towels, potholders, plates, an ice cream scoop, a blender, cookie cutters, platters, a recipe box, mixing bowls, etc. are in the hope chest already.

A few weeks ago, I went through my hope chest to try to make more room. I didn't accomplish anything since I have been taking advantage of all the nooks and crannies as I put in a new item. But I'm so glad I went through it because I found some things that I had forgotten I had! Yay!

I found seven packs of cupcake papers. :) These are so easy to store...I think I might even add a few more to the pile, too.

I had not forgotten about this. This red pitcher I got on clearance at Target for $2.48! This was the inspiration for the room changes, too.

A few things I was thrilled to find were these items. A beautiful pie plate, a small platter, and big serving bowl.

I think I need to go through my hope chest more often!

Still time to enter the giveaway ~here~.

Collections: Hope Chest - Giveaway

For the last giveaway in the Collection series, meet Linda Gerhard of The Bride's Hope Chest...

~ About the Shop ~

My name is Linda Gerhard. Many young brides dream of the homes they'll keep and the children they'll tend to in the coming years. They begin collecting items for the house, linens and family heirlooms, perhaps a christening gown that was used by generations of children through the years, or cherished clothes, dolls or quilts that may have belonged to them when they were children. I began sewing when I was a young bride. My husband of now more than 35 years gave me my first sewing machine our first Christmas together. I haven't stopped sewing since! Our children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and babies of friends have received quilts, christening gowns and other items created by my hands. I've been embroidering by machine for over 8 years. Machine embroidery has added new creative avenues for my quilting and sewing projects. I've embroidered on nearly every surface from silk to leather. The possibilities are nearly boundless! If you have a special project in mind, please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss it. Thanks for stopping by! I'm also identified on Etsy as user name lgerhard55, Linda Gerhard, and for my jewelry shop, SilverKomodo.

Collections: Hope Chest - Intro

I have been collecting items for my hope chest for years. It went from fitting in a little shoe box, to a wooden handmade hope chest, and now that has overflowed, too. It's fun to plan what colors I want in my future house! I have chosen aqua and red. Aqua mixing bowls, serving bowls and platters, etc. and red pitchers, potholders, and accessory pieces. I've collected measuring cups, recipe cards, spreaders, butter plates, rolling pins, and paring knives all in preparation for when I have my own house.

Do you have a hope chest?

To finish off the collections series, next Monday I'm hosting a linky party for you to share some of the things you collect. Just make a blog post including some of the things you collect and link up. (Feel free to copy the picture below for your post.)

I Will Sing of My Redeemer

I Will Sing of My Redeemer
words by Philip Bliss

I will sing of my Redeemer,
And His wondrous love to me;
On the cruel cross He suffered,
From the curse to set me free.

Sing, oh sing, of my Redeemer,
With His blood, He purchased me.
On the cross, He sealed my pardon,
Paid the debt, and made me free.

I will tell the wondrous story,
How my lost estate to save,
In His boundless love and mercy,
He the ransom freely gave.

I will praise my dear Redeemer,
His triumphant power I’ll tell,
How the victory He giveth
Over sin, and death, and hell.

Refrain I will sing of my Redeemer,
And His heav’nly love to me;
He from death to life hath brought me,
Son of God with Him to be.

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us. ~Galatians 3:13

Collections: Books - My Reading Nook

Do you have a reading nook at your house? A favorite chair you like to relax in? Or perhaps that hammock on a warm summer day?

I have several reading nooks. At night I read in bed, during a winter day I choose to stay close to the fire, but on a nice sunny warm day, I like head up to my window seat and relax with a book.

The window seat also attracts the cat who loves to lounge there of a morning when the sun-patches are available for her to soak up.

Another nice thing is that the bookshelves are right next to the window seat so I can reach right over if I want a certain book.

Some of the books you might find on my shelf are:
Winnie-the-Pooh by A. A. Milne
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom
Until We Reach Home by Lynn Austin
Sleeping Murder by Agatha Christie
Across the Wide and Lonesome Prairie
     (Dear America) by Kristiana Gregory
The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien

What are some books on your shelves?

Collections: Books - Giveaway

All book lovers will be thrilled about the giveaway I have for you today.

~ About the shop ~

We're a husband and wife super-duo (trio if you count the cat, which you should) who believe that curiosity is a way of life. We believe that things should be more than functional, that they should be inspirational and celebrate knowledge. Erin is the creative side of things - designing, refining and handcrafting each item you see in our shop, while Ducky runs the administrative side, crunching numbers and printing shipping. We've tried to train the cat to answer customer emails, but until she grows thumbs, Ducky heads that up as well.
